CEO
Run Fun Starz Group

If you have arrived to our blog by following us on Twitter thank you. My name is Amie Samba. This blog has some information that will help you, your school, friends or community benefit from taking part in sport from different perspectives. Just below is an introduction to how we are delivering programmes to provide sport to a range of people. What is outlined below is exactly what we are doing right now to encourage the use of sports to bring communities together. Below there is also some background about me for those of you who would like to know who they are dealing with. I hope that you like it and that we connect in the near future.

If you haven’t come here from Twitter and you would like to follow us then you can find us here @RunFunStarz or myself @AmieSamba. Alternatively, click on one of our twitter feeds.

Run Fun Starz Group was created for people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities: ”We exist to deliver Sports Programmes which will serve as the platform for children, young people and adults of all abilities to reach their personal best in sport”.

The Sports Programmes experience is a journey of a great sporting experience. A person’s first involvement in sport is pivotal to their motivation and enthusiasm to continue physical exercise. That is why the Run Fun Starz Group works tirelessly to help the its pupils get the best out of every single programme. This can only be achieved by firstly creating an enjoyable, friendly and fun environment. Lets face it we all learn more when we are interested and are made to feel good.

Run Fun Starz is an independent sports organisation I initially started after graduating as a Sports Science student from University in 2009. But I have always loved playing sports. I grew up in Sweden myself (Gislaved). My family left there and moved to England when I was 8 or 9 years old. I used to play Inner Bandi all the time. It is better known as Floor ball to some. So everything that I am doing with the orgnisation is very close to my heart. I started playing Floor ball in school when I was about 6 or 7. I loved it and there was nothing else I would rather do, all because it made me feel great. A few years later I played a lot of Football when I moved to London. However, my participation reduced dramatically as I got to my teenage years. This was due to a number of reasons, including school work and peer pressure. Equally I never really had the direction or opportunity of places to continue my enjoyment of structured sport. For a girl living in an inner city area this disadvantage was heightened. Consequently I missed out on a critical stage in skill development and perhaps missed out on reaching my personal best. So I sought out to help others reach theirs.

During my time at university and prior to it I volunteered in many sporting events, schools and had a job as an Activity Leader. My first experience of coaching was at the age of 16. Where I often encountered complaints from parents, young people and adults alike that there were not enough places they could go to just play sport; apart from Saturday Football or joining a club/leisure centre which would require paying an expensive membership fee. This particularly seem to be the case for young people aged 11-16. Additionally, the lack of opportunity to play sports they had never experienced before was a huge disappointment.

This got me thinking a lot about sports that suited to the exact needs of the community. It is one of the reasons we want the community to be provided with community-centered sports activities. People who take the time in attending physical activity sessions are valuable and their determination to become fit and learn new skills. This means they deserve to be accommodated in the best way.

In this blog myself and the professional Run Fun Starz coaches will post regular blog entries. This blog is intended to give you (the reader) an insight to the day-to-day events about Run Fun Starz, views, tips and other relevant topics. We hope that the blog will at least inspire you to join our vision and connect with us. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you all.

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog.
